Last week, I turned 33. Blah. What is it about having two threes in my age that makes me feel like I'm now an official adult, and there's no turning back.
It could have been a super crappy birthday. My dad's still in the hospital after two months, and that's been stressful, upsetting and all the other usual adjectives one could use to describe the situation. And while I have projects on the horizon, I am feeling a little bit of a creative slump. Yet, my birthday didn't suck. In fact, it was great, thanks to a fun combined party and book reading, and a day at Spa Castle, a Korean-owned wonderland where I spent all day soaking in hot tubs and heated pools while jets massaged every inch of my body, and mediating in different-themed saunas. I even shed my clothes and inhibitions and spent some time in the man-only, clothing non-optional naked hot baths area, which I have to say, I loved. There's something about spending your birthday in your birthday suit covered in water that's kind of poetic. I also recently said oh-kay to a trip to Tompkins Square Park with my good friend and super-talented writer/editor Rebecca Wilson (check out her blog Saucy Salad.) We took unauthorized photos of random stranger and, oddly enough, some of those photos managed to sum up exactly how I've been feeling as of late. Here, take a look:
